This story dates back to the time when Lal Bahadur Shastri was the Home Minister of Uttar Pradesh in India. He diligently performed his duties in his office and was the favourite of all. One day some workers from the Department Of Social Reformation came to his house to install a room air conditioner. Everyone at his home got elated including Shastri Ji’s wife. When Shastri Ji came to know about this he bacame quite upset. He immediately called up the workers and ordered them to stop the installation. His wife got saddened by this and asked him about the reason behind refusing the facility. Shastriji replied, ” It is not essential that I occupy the office forever. Once we get used to enjoying these facilities, we might face difficulties while living like common people with minimal facilities. We have to raise our daughters and marry them off also. Who knows what types of families they will be living in. Hence, they should be able to adjust to whatever environment and situations they face.”
Lal Bahadur Shastri had inherited all his morals and ethics from his mother. He wanted these to pass on to his children as legacy. These morals and ethics were the lifeline of the great Shastri which saw him as prime minister of India.
